INSET Themes and ASEI / PDSI
3. INSET Themes and ASEI / PDSI
3-1 INSET Theme
The themes of the INSET for every year during the project period have been developed as shown below.
3-2 ASEI Lesson
To ensure the quality of mathematics and science lessons and their steady improvement,
the project promotes ASEI movement.
ASEI, which is an acronym for Activities, Students, Experiments and
Improvisation is a key word in the project for lesson innovation.
-
Activities for the students such as practical work, discussion, presentation etc,
should be taken more in the lesson to promote students' active participation.
-
Not the teacher but the Students should be placed at the center of lesson.
How the students learn should be given priority over how the teacher teaches.
-
Students should be given opportunities to perform Experiments,
which enhance understanding of concepts and principles in mathematics and science.
-
When conventional apparatus is not available, teachers should make effort to
give experiments by Improvising resources.
However, improvisation also is used for creating interest in the learners.

3-3 PDSI Aproach
ASEI lesson is made possible by Plan, Do, See, Improve (PDSI) practice.
- Plan: Careful preparation based on learners' needs and problems
- Do: Teach the lesson, using well-chosen and planned activities
- See: Evaluate the lesson at all stages of its development
- Improve: Feedback the evaluation results to improve lesson instructions
and future planning and implementation
Through INSET, whose annual themes have been shown in the chart above,
and many other activities, the project inculcates the spirit of
ASEI movement and the PDSI practices to the mathematics and science teachers.
This will ensure meaningful lessons in mathematics and science leading to
generation of scientifically literate manpower.
